RADAR uses two biometrics — BreathPrint and PulseWave Identification — that work together to verify a person’s identify while simultaneously collecting a breath-alcohol sample.
Breath Print
BreathPrint Identification works by recording the duration and volume of a person’s exhale as they blow into the RADAR device. Similar to a fingerprint, each person’s exhale creates a unique "shape" that can be used to identify them. When applied alone, the BreathPrint technology can distinguish a subject from the population with about 95 percent confidence.
Pulse Wave
To complement this technology and provide a small additional weighting to the BreathPrint ID process, RADAR uses our PulseWave Identification method. PulseWave uses infrared light to record the signature of a person’s pulse — measured through a lens on the RADAR mouthpiece — as a way to further identify them. Together, these two biometric technologies are incredibly accurate and resistant to counterfeiting or biases commonly found in facial recognition and other identification methods.
As with any biometric technique, a user must first "enroll" their device under controlled conditions. Just like setting up the touch ID or facial ID on a smartphone, this is necessary to record or establish a user’s identity upon receiving their device.

Do clients need a cell phone to use RADAR?
No, all you need is the RADAR device. It is a self-contained alcohol testing and monitoring device.
How often can a client be tested?
Personalized test windows are scheduled by the monitoring Agent. Clients are tested randomly, within a specified time frame up to 8 times per day, on demand or Client initiated.
How are clients notified to take a breath test?
Clients are required to keep RADAR on their person or close by. The device will vibrate and make a buzzing sound to prompt the client to take a test. If clients request, a text message and/or email notification can be scheduled 10 minutes before the required test.
What if my client misses a test?
RADAR will automatically send a retest prompt ten minutes after the originally scheduled test. If the client misses scheduled breath tests clients can easily submit a manual breath test.
How often does RADAR’s battery need to be charged?
RADAR holds a charge for up to 7-days using the provided USB cable and wall adapter, connecting to a computer or automobile USB outlet. For optimal performance we recommend charging every other day.
Does RADAR work in rural areas?
Yes, after a test is completed RADAR connects to any cellular service provider and securely transmits results via military grade data encryption. If cellular service is not available test results are automatically saved and transmitted when service is available.
Can RADAR be taken on an airplane?
Yes. RADAR is the optimal alcohol testing and monitoring device for the traveling client. By design RADAR automatically reconfigures its location and seamlessly continues testing and monitoring in North America.
How do I take a successful breath test?
Inhale deeply and exhale completely by blow steadily into the mouthpiece of your device. Do not inhale into the mouthpiece or blow too softly or too hard. Do not block the back opening on the top of the device as you provide a breath test. Consistency is the key with your sample as your test will last a few seconds.
Can the client take a test while RADAR is charging?
Yes, RADAR can be conveniently charged via USB and tests can be taken at any time.
Can facial hair cause an unsuccessful test?
Yes. It is important to brush aside facial hair prior to placing lips on the faceplate for lip print and pulse rate biometric identification.
When does RADAR require a second or third test?
Clients will be prompted to take another test when alcohol is detected, a breath sample was inadequate, or the user did not keep full lip contact on the faceplate during the testing process.
How do I clean RADAR?
Only clean the exterior of the device using a mild, non-alcohol based disinfectant cleaner. Do not submerge in water.
Warning: The use of an alcohol-based cleaner is prohibited and could produce a positive testing result or viewed by the monitoring agent as tampering with the device.
